## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING A BANNER TOW PICK UP DEMONSTRATION FOR FAA AS A RESULT OF A BANNER TOW ACCIDENT ON APRIL 28TH, 2013, THREE DAYS EARLIER. THE AIRPLANE PICKED UP THE BANNER TOW ROPE AS PLANNED BUT GOT TOO SLOW DURING THE CLIMB OUT RESULTING IN AN EXCESSIVE ANGLE OF ATTACK CAUSING A STALL. THE AIRCRAFT DIPPED TO THE LEFT AND DESCENDED RAPIDLY STRIKING THE GROUND, BREAKING IN HALF AND FLIPPING OVER. THE PILOT WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT AND RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN13LA249](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN13LA249), May 1, 2013: Cessna 172M (N8899V), Covington, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain airspeed during a banner towing operation, which resulted in the airplane stalling and landing hard.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
