## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT AND 3 PASSENGERS WERE DOING AERIAL SURVEY FOR FLORIDA FISH AND WILDLIFE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS OVER THE EVERGLADES SOMEWHERE BETWEEN I-75, ALLIGATOR ALLEY, AND STATE HWY 27 AT A 40 FEET AGL HOVER AND THE PILOT HOVERED SIDEWAYS TO GET CLOSER TO A PATCH OF TREES TO SEE IF THEY WERE ABOVE THE WATERLINE. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO DESCEND THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO REGAIN ALTITUDE BY INCREASING POWER BUT WAS UNABLE AND THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GROUND THE TREES RESULTING IN MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA13LA242](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA13LA242), May 8, 2013: Sud SA 318C (N318DB), South Bay, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain proper rotor rpm while hovering in sideways flight.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
