## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DEPARTED HIS PRIVATE FARM STRIP AND PROCEEDED TO FLY AROUND HIS PROPERTY TO LOOK AT WATER CONDITIONS. WHILE AIRBORNE, THE WIND SHIFTED DIRECTIONS AND INCREASED IN SPEED.

BECAUSE OF THE CHANGE IN WIND, THE PILOT ELECTED TO LAND AT ANOTHER OPEN AREA ON HIS PROPERTY. HE KNEW THE AREA WELL AND KNEW OF THE POWER LINES NEAR HIS SITE OF INTENDED LANDING.

DURING THE APPROACH, THE PILOT WAS CONCENTRATING ON ONE SET OF POWER LINES AND STRUCK ANOTHER CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO NOSE OVER AND IMPACT THE TERRAIN. THIS RESULTED IN THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPING ONTO ITS BACK.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN13CA272](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN13CA272), May 9, 2013: Cessna 172M (N1820V), Thief River Falls, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain clearance from the power line while on approach to landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
