## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT HAND PROPPED ENGINE DUE TO A DEAD BATTERY. THE PILOT DID NOT CHOCK THE TIRES AND SET THE HAND BRAKE CORRECTLY. ALSO NO ONE WAS AT THE CONTROLS WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED. THE BRASS CLIP BROKE AT THE TAIL TIE DOWN RING AND THE AIRCRAFT BECAME UNSECURED AND RAN INTO ANOTHER AIRCRAFT AND SUBSTANCIALLY DAMAGED BOTH AIRCRAFT

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN13CA282](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN13CA282), May 16, 2013: Cessna 172RG (N5219U), Abbeville, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to properly secure the airplane before hand starting the engine and the failure of the brass tie down hook.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
