## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MAY 18, 2013, THE PILOT, WITH FOUR PASSENGERS ON BOARD, WAS APPROACHING WENATCHEE AIRPORT. ON BASE LEG FOR RUNWAY 30, THE ENGINE STOPPED PRODUCING POWER. THE PILOT TURNED TOWARD THE RUNWAY AND MANAGED TO LAND AT AN ANGLE TO THE RUNWAY ON THE PAVED SURFACE. A HARD LANDING RESULTED AND THE TAIL OF THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT STOPPED ON THE RUNWAY, AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY TOWED TO THE GA FUELING AREA OF THE AIRPORT. THE FBO LINEMAN ASSISTED THE OCCUPANTS IN FUELING THE AIRCRAFT. AFTER FUELING, THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED WENATCHEE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate fuel planning, which resulted in a loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion, and his improper landing flare, which resulted in the airplane’s tail striking the runway.
