## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 1, 2013, AT APPROXIMATELY 1000 PDT, N331RW, A RICHARD A. WAMPACH AEROMOOSESSNA, A HIGH-WING, TAILWHEEL-EQUIPPED EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT, WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED AFTER IT TOUCHED DOWN HARD AND BOUNCED ON THE RUNWAY, AS A RESULT OF A LOW-ALTITUDE STALL. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY INTO THE DIRT AT MUSTANG AIRPORT (2CL9), GALT, CA.

THE PERSONAL FLIGHT, DEPARTED PLACERVILLE AIRPORT (PVF), PLACERVILLE CA, AT ABOUT 0930 PDT, AND WAS DESTINED FOR MUSTANG AIRPORT, IN GALT, CA. THE PART 91 FLIGHT WAS CONDUCTED IN DAY VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS.

WHEN THE AIRCRAFT STALLED AND BOUNCED ON THE RUNWAY, THE PILOT ATTEMPTED A GO-AROUND IN ORDER TO GAIN CONTROL. AFTER HIS UNSUCCESSFUL ABILITY TO GET THE AIRCRAFT UNDER CONTROL, HE ZIGZAGGED ACROSS THE FIELD. HE NOTICED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS APPROACHING A DITCH 5-10 FEET WIDE; TO CLEAR THE DITCH, HE APPLIED FULL POWER AND FULL BACK PRESSURE ON THE CONTROLS, CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO HOP OVER. HOWEVER, THE MAIN TIRES CAUGHT THE FAR SIDE OF THE EMBANKMENT, CAUSING THE LANDING-GEAR LEGS TO BREAK LOOSE AND PIVOT AFT IN THEIR MOUNT STRUCTURE. THE AIRCRAFT REMAINED IN A RELATIVELY LEVEL ATTITUDE AS IT SKIDDED A FEW FEET BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. UNINJURED, THE PILOT AND THE PASSENGER EXITED THE AIRCRAFT THRU THE LEFT-DOOR WINDOW.

THE PILOT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF PREEXISTING MECHANICAL ANOMALIES THAT WOULD HAVE PRECLUDED NORMAL OPERATION OF THE AIRCRAFT.

CORRECTIVE ACTION: 44709 RE-EXAMINATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR13CA260](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR13CA260), Jun 1, 2013: Wampach Murphy Moose (N331RW), Galt, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper landing flare, which resulted in an abnormal runway contact.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
