## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 8, 2013, THE PILOT OF N6881W WAS ON A SOLO FLIGHT PRACTICING STEEP TURNS, SLOW FLIGHT AND LANDINGS. WHILE PRACTICING A SHORT FIELD LANDING THE PILOT OVERCORRECTED FOR A CROSSWIND CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO ENTER A RIGHT SIDE SLIP. THIS SLIP ALLOWED THE AIRCRAFT TO HIT THE RUNWAY HARD ON THE RIGHT MAIN AND NOSE LANDING GEAR BREAKING THE LANDING GEAR FROM THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA13CA284](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA13CA284), Jun 8, 2013: Piper PA-28-140 (N6881W), Ozark, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s failure to maintain control of the airplane during the aborted landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
