## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 13, 2013 RAIA FLIGHT 3414 ROA-ORD N854HK DIVERTED TO IND DUE TO #2 ENGINE SHUTDOWN AT 31000FT. THE CREW REPORTED NOTICING THAT THE ITT ON THE NUMBER #2 ENGINE WAS ERRATIC. WHEN POWER WAS ADJUSTED THE ENGINE REPORTEDLY SHUTDOWN. A BRIEF BURNING SMELL WAS NOTICED IN THE COCKPIT AND CABIN BUT QUICKLY DISAPPEARED. THE CREW NOTIFIED ATC OF THEIR NEED TO DIVERT TO IND AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE CREW REPORTED THAT FROM SHUTDOWN TO LANDING WAS APPROXIMATELY 10-12 MINUTES.

A MAINTENANCE CREW WAS SENT TO IND TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE ENGINE. THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE CHIP DETECTOR WAS COVERED WITH METAL SHAVINGS (OIL PAN AND SCAVANGE). TREND MONITORING INDICATED AN ITT PEAK OF 1034 WITH A ITT LIMIT OF 902. AN INSPECTOR (DOUG CARR) FROM THE IND FSDO WAS ABLE TO PERFORM SURVEILLANCE DURING PORTIONS OF THE ENGINE CHANGE. HIS RECORD IS ON PTRS GL11201308090 AND A SPOT IN ATOS.

A REQUEST HAS BEEN MADE TO THE AIRLINE FOR DETAILS OF THE ENGINE FAILURE UPON COMPLETION OF REPAIR FROM THE ENGINE OVERHAUL FACILITY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
