## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 19, 2013 UPON ARRIVAL AT SALAIKA AIRPORT (07TA) AT 1330 THE HELICOPTER OWNER ESCORTED US TO THE ACCIDENT SITE LOCATED IN A PASTURE ONE HALF MILE NORTH OF THE AIRPORT. THE HELICOPTER WAS LAYING ON ITS RIGHT SIDE WITH THE NOSE POINTING EAST. THE TAIL BOOM WAS SEPARATED FROM THE FUSELAGE, THE RIGHT SKID WAS BROKEN, AND THE TAIL ROTOR ASSEMBLY WAS MISSING. THE TAIL ROTOR WAS LOCATED 50 YARDS WEST OF THE HELICOPTER. ALL THREE MAIN ROTOR BLADES WERE INTACT WITH IMPACT DAMAGE. THERE WAS FUEL LEAKING FROM THE RIGHT FUEL CAP.

BOTH PILOTS WERE UNINJURED. THEY STATED WHEN POWER WAS REDUCED DURING THE LANDING PATTERN, A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD FOLLOWED BY AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND RPM. WHEN THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT PERFORMED AN AUTOROTATION, THE HELICOPTER IMPACTED THE GROUND VERY HARD, BROKE A SKID AND FLIPPED ONTO IT'S RIGHT SIDE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN13LA360](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN13LA360), Jun 19, 2013: Enstrom F-28A (N485PM), Danbury, TX, destroyed. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power due to the failure of a connecting rod for reasons that could not be determined during postaccident examination.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
