ON JUNE 22, 2013, AT APPROXIMATELY 2319Z, THE PILOT OF N77TV, A SCHLEICHER ASW-15 GLIDER FAILED TO MAINTAIN THE AIRSPEED OF HIS GLIDER DURING APPROACH TO LANDING AT NAVASOTA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (60R). WHEN THE PILOT DEPLOYED THE WING SPOILERS THE GLIDER IMMEDIATELY STALLED AND SPUN INTO THE GROUND AT AN ALMOST VERTICAL ANGLE.

THE GLIDER CARTWHEELED UPON IMPACT DESTROYING THE COCKPIT FORWARD OF THE PILOT?S SEAT AND BOTH WINGS. THE PILOT SUSTAINED A COMPOUND FRACTURE OF THE LEFT ANKLE AND A FRACTURED LEFT WRIST. THE REGISTRATION WAS CURRENT, THE AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE WAS NOT LOCATED AT THE SCENE DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE COCKPIT AREA. ## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN13LA369](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN13LA369), Jun 22, 2013: Schleicher ASW-15 (N77VT), Navasota, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: An inadvertent aerodynamic stall during the approach for landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
