## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING CLIMB OUT AFTER DEPARTING YETNA LODGE, AK, LOCATED 10 MILES NORTHWEST OF SKWENTNA AIRPORT (SKW), AK, THE PILOT STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND THE REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE (RPM) OF THE ENGINE DROPPED FROM THE SET 2600 RPM TO APPROXIMATELY 2000 RPM UNCOMMANDED. WHEN THE PILOT REALIZED THAT HE WOULD NOT CLEAR THE TREES IN HIS FLIGHT PATH AND HE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH ALTITUDE TO ACCOMPLISH A TURN BACK TO THE DEPARTURE RUNWAY, HE COMPLETED AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A STRAIGHT AHEAD MANNER. UPON TOUCHDOWN IN SOFT TERRAIN THE NOSE GEAR FOLDED UNDER THE AIRCRAFT AND THE AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER STRAIGHT AHEAD ONTO ITS BACK. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE VERTICAL FIN AND RUDDER, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE COWL, LEFT AND RIGHT WINGS AND LEFT WING STRUT. THE NOSE LANDING GEAR WAS TORN FROM ITS ATTACHMENT AT THE FIREWALL. THE PILOT AND SINGLE PASSENGER WERE BOTH UNHARMED.

ACCORDING TO THE NTSB IIC, AN ENGINE TEARDOWN WILL BE COMPLETED IN AUGUST OR SEPTEMBER OF 2013. IN THE EVENT THAT MORE INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE THIS REPORT WILL BE AMENDED TO INCLUDE A MALFUNCTION OR DEFECT REPORT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC13LA059](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC13LA059), Jun 29, 2013: Cessna 175 (N7698M), Skwentna, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The partial loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because the postaccident examination of the engine did not reveal any anomalies that would have precluded normal operation. .

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
