## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT 0600 ON THE MORNING OF JULY 5, 2013, AIRCRAFT N819AP STRUCK A LARGE BIRD AT 15,000 FEET ON CLIME OUT, TWENTY-FIVE MILES SOUTHEAST OF SAN JOSE AIRPORT. THE PILOTS DID NOT DECLARE AN EMERGENCY, BUT RETURNED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT TO SAN JOSE AIRPORT.

THE LEFT ENGINE HAD A DENT IN THE OUTBOARD SIDE OF THE COWLING. THE BIRD STRIKE HAD CAUSED FOUR FAN BLADES TO GO OFF TRACK AND SIX BLADES ARE KNOWN TO BE DAMAGED. THE LEFT ENGINE HAS BEEN REMOVED AND A LOANER ENGINE HAS BEEN INSTALLED IN ITS PLACE. THE AIRCRAFT HAS TAKEN SEVERAL MAINTENANCE TEST FLIGHTS WITH NO COMPLICATIONS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
