## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT TOOK OFF FROM THE BEAGLE FIELD AND WAS DEPARTING SOUTH. HE TOOK OFF AND BEGAN HIS BANK TO THE EAST WHILE CLIMBING AND GAINING ALTITUDE WHEN HE NOTICED HIS TEMPERATURE GAUGE STARTED CLIMBING ABOVE 190 DEGREES (WHICH IN THE NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE). THE PILOT SAID AT THIS TIME HE WAS FLYING WEST ACROSS THE AIRFIELD AND DECIDED TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WENT ABOVE 200 DEGREES. HE BANKED LEFT TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY APPROACH ON THE NORTH RUNWAY WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE PILOT SAID HE HAD APPROXIMATELY 800 FEET OF ALTITUDE AND KNEW HE WOULD NOT MAKE THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT WAS GLIDING AND LOSING ALTITUDE. THE PILOT SELECTED AN OPEN FIELD TO THE SOUTH OF THE RUNWAY ACROSS BEAGLE RD. HE LINED UP TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO GLIDE OVER THE DRIVEWAY FENCE AT THE END OF THE FIELD AND LAND. HE DID NOT HAVE THE AIRSPEED TO GET ACROSS THE FENCE AND HE LANDED THE AIRCRAFT IN A FIELD TO THE WEST OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED APPROXIMATELY FIFTY FEET FROM THE FENCE AND WAS UNABLE TO GET THE AIRCRAFT TO STOP BEFORE HE STRUCK THE FENCE CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL AIRCRAFT DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: Excessive engine operating temperature, which resulted in engine failure and a forced landing. The reason for the excessive engine operating temperature could not be determined during postaccident…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong.
