## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE ACCIDENT AIRCRAFT HAD A REPORTED ROUGH RUNNING ENGINE. IT TAXIED TO RWY 34. WINDS REPORTED AT KGZS WERE 140 AT 3 KNOTS. THE ENGINE QUIT AND THE PILOT GOT OUT AND STARTED THE ENGINE AGAIN (HAND PROP). THE EYEWITNESS ESTIMATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT HAD ABOUT 2500 FEET REMAINING TO TAKEOFF ON A 0.8% UPSLOPING RUNWAY, DOWNWIND. THE DENSITY ALTITUDE WAS 1705 FEET.

THE AIRCRAFT STEEPLY ROTATED AT THE NUMBERS AND CRASHED 2900 FEET NORTHWEST OF THE 16 NUMBERS. IT WAS IN A STEEP VERTICAL DESCENT. THE AIRCRAFT CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED. THE PILOT WAS FATALLY INJURED.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS OUT OF ANNUAL INSPECTION. THE LAST INSPECTION WAS DONE 5/17/2012. THIS IS A VIOLATION OF 14CFR 91.409.

THE STEEP CLIMB AND RESULTING SPIN INDICATE AN AIRMAN COMPETENCE ISSUE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA13LA320](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA13LA320), Jul 16, 2013: Thompson Bruce D Sonerai II (N788T), Pulaski, TN, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed during a near-vertical climb after takeoff, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and subsequent collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
