## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRMAN DEPARTED RUNWAY 36 AT WATERLOO AIRPORT (ALO) WITH A PRE-SOLO STUDENT TO CONDUCT A FLIGHT INSTRUCTION TRAINING SESSION. AT APPROXIMATELY 200 TO 300 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND THE AIRMAN STATED THAT HE HEARD MULTIPLE ?CLUNKS? AND NOTED THE AIRPLANE SEEMED TO NOT BE HANDLING IN A NORMAL FASHION. HE CIRCLED IMMEDIATELY TO RUNWAY 12 AND SET UP FOR A LANDING. THE AIRMAN ASKED THE TOWER TO VISUALLY SCAN THE AIRCRAFT AND DETERMINE IF ANY ABNORMALITY COULD BE SEEN. THE AIRMAN STATED THAT THE CONTROLLER ADVISED HIM THAT THE RIGHT WHEEL WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRMAN ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE LANDING. THE AIRMAN STATED THAT HE HELD THE RIGHT WING OFF THE GROUND AS LONG AS HE COULD AND THEN LOWERED THE DAMAGED RIGHT MAIN GEAR TO THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED OUT AND DID NOT DEPART THE RUNWAY. THE AIRMAN SHUT THE AIRCRAFT DOWN AND EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITH HIS STUDENT WITHOUT INCIDENT. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. OTHER THAN THE DAMAGE TO THE LANDING GEAR SOME MINOR DAMAGE WAS NOTED TO THE RIGHT WING FLAP WHICH WAS STRUCK BY THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY THAT WAS HANGING BY THE BRAKE HOSE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
