## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS APPROACHING NORTH LAS VEGAS AIRPORT (KVGT) AND WAS CLEARED FOR A RIGHT BASE TO RUNWAY (RWY)12R ABOUT 3 MILES OUT WITH WINDS AT 12 KNOTS, GUSTING TO 22. PILOT WAS CLEARED TO LAND ABOUT A MINUTE LATER ON RWY 25L. WINDS WERE NOW 18 KTS, GUSTING TO 28. PILOT LINED UP TO LAND AND HAD ABOUT A 30 DEGREE CRAB TO HOLD THE CENTERLINE. ACCORDING TO PILOT, THE WINDS FELT MORE LIKE GUSTING TO 35 KTS, PILOT APPLIED RIGHT RUDDER AND RIGHT BRAKE ON LANDING TO NO AVAIL, PILOT WAS ROLLING TOWARD THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AT ABOUT A 45-DEGREE ANGLE AND NOTHING WOULD STOP HIM EXITING THE RWY. PILOT WAS ABLE TO ADD LEFT RUDDER AND BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING A RWY LIGHT, BUT WENT DOWN INTO A SHALLOW DITCH. PILOT TRIED TO GROUND LOOP TO THE LEFT TO AVOID A PROP STRIKE BUT THE SOFT GRAVEL CAUSED THE PILOT TO TIP THE NOSE TO THE GROUND. AS THE PILOT FELT THE SENSATION OF NOSING OVER, PILOT CUT THE MAGNETO SWITCH SO AS NOT TO BE UNDER POWER. PROP DID STRIKE THE GROUND, BUT WAS NOT UNDER POWER AT THE TIME. PROPELLER SHOWED SOME STONE SCRAPPING, BUT NO INERTIAL DAMAGE. BENT UP THE AIR-BREATHER BOX AND SCRAPED THE NOSE COWL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
