## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 07, 2013, AT APPROXIMATELY 1800Z, A PIPER PA28-180, N2195T, REGISTERED TO DONALD WEISHUHN A STUDENT PILOT, WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED DURING AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT WITH A CERTIFICATED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (CFI) ONBOARD. THE CFI ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, ATTEMPTED A GO-AROUND ON RUNWAY 27 AT CLARE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (48D).

BOTH CFI AND STUDENT STATED THE AIRCRAFT WAS TOO LOW AND SLOW FOR NORMAL APPROACH SPEED, THE CFI RECOGNIZED THE CONDITION AND ATTEMPTED A GO-AROUND. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN ON THE GRASS ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF RUNWAY 27, AND CAME TO REST IN A DRAINAGE DITCH. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED BY GROUND IMPACT.

DAY VISUAL METEROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED FOR THE PART 91 LOCAL INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT. THE CFI AND STUDENT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT ON THEIR OWN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The flight instructor's failure to adequately monitor the landing approach, his delayed corrective action and his failure to maintain directional control that resulted in the airplane's collision…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
