## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS PRACTICING NIGHT STOP AND GO LANDINGS ON RUNWAY 4 AT GREATER KANKAKEE AIRPORT. AS HE WAS ROTATING ON TAKEOFF, A DEER RAN IN FRONT OF THE AIRPLANE. THE PROPELLER DECAPITATED THE DEER. THE BODY IMPACTED THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE AIRPLANE. THE HEAD IMPACTED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE AIRPLANE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN13CA495](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN13CA495), Aug 18, 2013: Cessna 172 (N5148A), Kankakee, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The airplane struck a deer during takeoff. Contributing to the accident was the perimeter fence being less than FAA's recommended 10 feet high.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
