## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT DEPARTED THE SHOSHONE COUNTY AIRPORT IN KELLOGG, IDAHO, IN HIS AMATEUR-BUILT EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT AND THEN FLEW 10 MILES TO THE WEST TO CONDUCT LOCAL RECREATIONAL FLYING NEAR CATALDO, IDAHO. APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT, THE AIRCRAFT APPARENTLY ENTERED A SPIN, LOST POWER, DESCENDED VERTICALLY AND COLLIDED WITH THE TERRAIN IN A WOODED RESIDENTIAL AREA FOUR MILES WEST OF CATALDO. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED AND THE PILOT RECEIVED FATAL INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR13FA380](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR13FA380), Aug 19, 2013: Nelson KR-2 (N9028Q), Cataldo, ID, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to intentionally enter a spin in the airplane, which had unknown spin characteristics due to the engine modification, from which he was unable to recover.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
