## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A LANDING WAS MADE ON A 1,900 FOOT LONG PRIVATE GRASS RUNWAY NEAR APEX, NC IN A 1966 CESSNA 172E. THERE ARE TALL TREES ON BOTH ENDS OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT RAN OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY THE LANDING WAS ATTEMPTED ON. DURING THE LANDING ROLLOUT, THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE RIGHT EDGE OF THE RUNWAY, WENT DOWN AN EMBANKMENT, THE NOSEWHEEL STRUCK A SMALL DITCH, AND THE AIRCRAFT WENT OVER ITS NOSE ONTO ITS TOPSIDE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP ON ITS TOPSIDE WITH THE NOSE POINTING IN THE DIRECTION FROM WHICH IT HAD COME, AND THE TAIL IN THE DIRECTION THE AIRCRAFT HAD BEEN TRAVELING. THERE IS A WIRE FENCE AT THE END OF THE LANDING RUNWAY THAT SPANS THE RUNWAY WIDTH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA13CA393](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA13CA393), Aug 30, 2013: Cessna 172E (N3513S), Apex, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to attain the proper touchdown point on the runway, which resulted in a runway overrun and subsequent aircraft noseover.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
