## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2013, AT APPROXIMATELY 1100 CDT, CESSNA 182J, N3480F, CRASHED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON RUNWAY 35 AT GRANT COUNTY AIRPORT IN HYANNIS, NEBRASKA. THE PILOT AND SOLE OCCUPANT, HAD ATTEMPTED SEVERAL APPROACHES TO RUNWAY 17 AND ELECTED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 35 DUE TO CROSSWINDS. THE PILOT NOTICED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS VEERING TO THE RIGHT OF THE RUNWAY AND ELECTED TO INITIATE A GO-AROUND;HOWEVER, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK TWO HAY BALES AND A BARBED WIRE FENCE ADJACENT TO THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANIAL DAMAGE AND THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN13CA538](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN13CA538), Sep 7, 2013: Cessna 182J (N3480F), Hyannis, NE, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot did not adequately compensate for the gusty wind conditions which resulted in a loss of directional control during the landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
