## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT DEPARTED TRI TO VJI AT 12:30 PM. THE WEATHER REPORTED WINDS FROM 340 AND GUSTING 12. PILOT REPORTED THE FLIGHT FROM KTRI AND THE APPROACH TO RUNWAY 6 WAS NORMAL AND UNEVENTFUL. AFTER TOUCHDOWN ON THE CENTERLINE OF RUNWAY 6, A GUST OF WIND LIFTED THE RIGHT WING AND SWUNG THE TAIL TO THE RIGHT. PILOT APPLIED THE NECESSARY CORRECTIONS TO THE RUDDER AND AILERON, AT THIS TIME THE PILOT COULD NOT REGAIN CONTROL AND THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO MOVE LEFT OF CENTER LINE AT APPROX. 50-60 KNOTS.

LEFT MAIN WHEEL ENTERED THE WET GRASS ON THE LEFT RUNWAY EDGE AND SOON THE NOSE WHEEL AND RIGHT MAIN FOLLOWED. NEITHER RIGHT RUDDER NOR BRAKING WAS EFFECTIVE DUE TO THE VERY SLIPPERY CONDITIONS OF THE GRASS FROM A HEAVY RAINFALL FROM THE NIGHT BEFORE.

AIRCRAFT SLID THROUGH THE GRASS UNTIL RUNNING INTO A DITCH AND COLLAPSING THE NOSE GEAR ASSY.

PILOT NOR PASSENGER WERE INJURED

DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT:

MINOR DENT RIGHT WING FWD OF GEAR ASSY (HIT A 2000 FT MARKER)

PROP STRIKE

BENT NOSE GEAR ASSEMBLY

BENT AND BROKEN ENGINE MOUNT

MINOR DAMAGE TO FIREWALL AND FUSELAGE BELLY

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA13CA419](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA13CA419), Sep 13, 2013: Piper PA28 151 (N4379F), Abingdon, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the pilot to maintain directional control during a crosswind landing resulting in collision with terrain and aft displacement of the nose landing gear.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
