## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE IN CRUISE FLIGHT AT ABOUT 3000 FEET THE PILOT FELT ROUGHNESS IN THE ENGINE AND REFERENCED THE NEAREST AIRPORT FUNCTION ON THE GPS, WHICH INDICATED KGEZ WAS 5.4 MILES AWAY ON A 294 DEGREE BEARING. HE IMMEDIATELY TURNED TOWARD THE AIRPORT; THE ENGINE QUICKLY BECAME MUCH ROUGHER, THEN QUIT. WHEN IT BECAME APPARENT HE WOULD NOT MAKE THE AIRPORT, THE PILOT LANDED IN A SOYBEAN FIELD ON THE NORTH SIDE OF EAST COUNTRY ROAD 500 BETWEEN COUNTY ROAD 100W AND STATE ROAD 9, LESS THAN 2 MILES FROM THE AIRPORT. NO DAMAGE WAS INCURRED DURING THE LANDING.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
