## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT 0900 LOCAL ON MONDAY OCTOBER 21, 2013 I RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM MY FLM ABOUT AN ACCIDENT/INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED ON OCTOBER 03, 2013 AT THE MID FLORIDA (X55) AIRPORT NEAR EUSTIS, FL. THE REPORTED MISHAP WAS AT 0820 LOCAL BY THE LAKE COUNTY SHERRIFS OFFICE.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS A WEIGHT SHIFT CONTROL AIR TRIKES EAGLE REGISTRATION NUMBER N927H. THE AIRMAN STATED THAT AFTER HE TOOK OFF THE AIRCRAFT LOST POWER AND THEN THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. HE PROCEEDED TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT IN A FIELD. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE CONTROLS FELT DIFFERENT BECAUSE HIS INSTRUCTOR WAS NOT IN THE AIRCRAFT WITH HIM. HE DID NOT MAKE THE PROPER CONTROL INPUTS FOR LANDING AND ENDED NOSE DOWN IN THE GROUND, THEN BOUNCED ABOUT TWENTY FEET. PRIOR TO ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ SOLO FLIGHT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ INSTRUCTOR FLEW WITH HIM ON THREE SUCCESSESSFUL TAKEOFFS? AND LANDINGS.

THE AIRMAN WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED AND TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. HE SUFFERED A HEAD INJURY AND A TEAR IN HIS SMALL INTESTINE. THE AIRCRAFT APPEARED TO SUSTAIN SUBSTAINTIAL DAMAGE TO THE FRAME AND LANDING GEAR. THIS WAS VISIBLE BY THE PHOTOS TAKEN BY THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFF?S OFFICE. THE PHOTOS TAKEN WERE FORWARDED TO TIM MONVILLE FROM THE NTSB.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14LA035](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14LA035), Oct 3, 2013: Airborne Edge Executive (N927H), Eustis, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadvertent stalling of the wing following a total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined during postaccident examinations, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
