## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT LOST CONTROL OF AIRCRAFT ATTEMPTING A LANDING AT KSEZ, RUNWAY 21.

THE PILOT STATED IN THE POLICE REPORT THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND, THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED SEVERAL TIMES AND HE DECIDED TO GO AROUND. AS HE CLEARED THE SOUTH FENCE, THE PLANE FLIPPED OVER AND WENT DOWN THE MESA.

THE WIND WAS REPORTED AT 2135Z AS 19015G25KT.

VIDEO FROM A CELL PHONE CAMERA SHOWS THE AIRCRAFT ATTEMPTING TO LAND, THEN ATTEMPTING TO GO AROUND AND THEN DISAPPEAR BELOW THE MESA. THE AIRCRAFT APPEARS TO BE SLOW AND THE PILOT IS HAVING DIFFICULTLY KEEPING THE WINGS LEVEL.

IN A WRITTEN STATEMENT THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE ?DEPARTED WITH TWO PASSENGERS FROM HENDERSON AIRPORT NV TO SEDONA AIRPORT AZ. THE WEATHER WAS REPORTED TO BE GOOD. DURING THE APPROACH AND PREPARING FOR LANDING I RECOGNIZED SEVERAL WIND CHANGES IN THE ASOS, MAINLY BETWEEN WINDS FROM 200 TO 170 DEGRESS 10-15 KNOTS. THEREFORE I DECIDED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 21.THE APPROACH WAS QUITE WELL, IN SHORT FINAL I RECOGNIZED SOME TURBULENCES I PROCEEDED WITH THE LANDING. ACCORDING TO MY MEMORIES I TOUCHED ONCE OR TWICE THAN I DECIDED TO GO AROUND. INITIALY I HAD A POSITIVE RATE OF CLIMB BUT SUDDENLY THE PLANE LOST HEIGHT AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY, BOUNCED MAYBE ONE MORE TIME AND THEN WENT DOWN THE MESA WITH A VERY STEEP RIGHT ANGLE.?

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR14CA011](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR14CA011), Oct 8, 2013: Mooney M20J (N5760Y), Sedona, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate flare which resulted in a bounced landing and subsequent loss of aircraft control during an aborted landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
