## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT SAID HE TURNED BASE A LITTLE TOO CLOSE TO THE FIELD DUE TO THE PROXIMITY OF THE MOUNTAIN ON FINAL. HE MISS-JUDGED THE BEGINNING OF RUNWAY 30 AS IT WAS LOWER IN ELEVATION THAN EXPECTED. HE WAS AT 80 MPH WITH FULL FLAPS ON FINAL BUT TOO HIGH. HE THOUGHT HE COULD MAKE IT. BY THE TIME HE HAD REALIZED HIS ERROR, IT WAS TOO LATE AND HE KNEW HE COULDN'T GET OVER THE 30 FOOT TREES AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY TO GO AROUND. HE LANDED AND APPLIED FULL BRAKES BUT JUST SLID ON THE GRASS. HE GUIDED THE AIRPLANE TO THE LONGEST AREA OFF TO THE RIGHT WITH THE FEWEST OBSTACLES AND HIT THE LEFT WING ON A TREE AND CAME TO A STOP.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14CA037](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14CA037), Oct 14, 2013: Piper PA 28-150 (N5873W), Newport, NH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's incorrect glide path, which resulted in a landing area overshoot and a runway excursion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
