## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WAS ENROUTE FROM ELY, NEVADA TO RICHFIELD, UTAH, WHEN THE PILOT NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE?S CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE WAS RISING. HE THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A LEAKING HOSE (ROTAX WATER-COOLED ENGINE) OR A BAD TEMPERATURE GAUGE SENSOR. HE ELECTED TO MAKE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING TO TERRAIN WHICH HE THOUGHT WAS SUITABLE IN ORDER TO AVOID ENGINE DAMAGE OR FAILURE. HOWEVER, DURING THE TOUCHDOWN AND LANDING ROLL HE ENCOUNTERED UNEVEN TERRAIN, WHICH ULTIMATELY RESULTED IN A ROUGH LANDING AND SUBSEQUENTLY SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO BOTH WINGS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR14CA020](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR14CA020), Oct 17, 2013: L Goldner Zenith 701 (N67MG), Milford, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper decision to execute a precautionary landing to unsuitable terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
