## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON MOOSEHEAD LAKE IN NORTHEAST CARRY MAINE 30 TO 40 MINUTES AFTER OFFICAL SUNSET. AIRCRAFT HIT THE WATER WITH A HIGH RATE OF DESENT. THE FLOATS WERE TORN OFF THE AIRCRAFT AND THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER AS IT SANK. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE ABLE TO ESCAPE THE AIRCRAFT AS IT FLIPPED OVER AND STARTED TO SWIM TO SHORE. THE AIRCRAFT SANK IN ABOUT 25 FEET OF WATER. THE FLOATS REMAINED ON THE SURFACE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14CA021](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14CA021), Oct 19, 2013: Cessna A185F (N93037), Northeast Carry, ME, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper decision to take off for an intended night water landing, and his subsequent loss of depth perception during that landing attempt.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
