## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT LANDED ON RWY 34R AND VEERED OFF THE RWY INTO THE GRASS DUE TO LOSS OF CONTROL WHILE OPERATING THE RUDDERS AND BRAKES. THE AIRCRAFT RIGHT MAIN GEAR IMPACTED A CONCRETE BARRIER AND TORE THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR AND STRUT OFF. THE AIRCRAFT WAS EQUIPPED WITH HEEL BRAKES RATHER THAN THE TRADITIONAL TOE BRAKES AND THE PILOT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STEER THE AIRCRAFT INADVERTANTLY PRESSED ON A HEEL BRAKE CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO SWERVE OFF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT HAD JUST PURCHASED THE AIRCRAFT AND HAD 12 HOURS IN TYPE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14CA033](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14CA033), Oct 29, 2013: Stinson SR 5A (N14163), Manassas, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadvertent application of only one brake during landing roll, resulting in a ground loop and runway excursion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
