## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THIS WAS A PRE-PLANNED ABORTED TAKE OFF MANEUVER. AN ENGINE FAILURE WAS INDUCED BY PULLING THE RIGHT MIXTURE TO IDLE CUT OFF. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY TO THE RIGHT INTO THE GRASS. BECAUSE OF A HEAVY SIDE LOAD THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED UPON REACHING THE GRASS AND THE AIRCRAFT SLID TO A STOP AGAINST THE GLIDESLOPE ANTENNA ARRAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14CA040](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14CA040), Nov 5, 2013: Beech E 55 (N1908L), Blountville, TN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's delayed reaction and loss of directional control while performing a simulated engine failure during the takeoff roll. A factor in the accident was the CFI's delayed reaction to the loss…

## Other reports on N1908L (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19781219023389I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19781219023389I), Dec 19, 1978: Beech 9555 (N1908L), Houston, TX. Shortly after liftoff, engine failed. Landed without incident. Crankshaft had broken just aft #6 cylinder.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
