## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND HIS CESSNA 172 ON A SANDY BEACH IN IYOUKEEN COVE ON THE NORTH EAST PORTION OF CHICHAGOF ISLAND.

AS THE PILOT TOUCHED DOWN, THE AIRCRAFT SLOWED RAPIDLY DUE TO SOFTER THAN EXPECTED SAND, THE NOSE WHEEL SANK INTO THE SAND AND THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED UPSIDE DOWN, CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC14CA005](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC14CA005), Nov 12, 2013: Cessna 172 (N709SB), Juneau, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's decision to land on an unsuitable surface, which resulted in a nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
