## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT TOOK OFF FROM BYRON AIRPORT (C83) ON HIS FIRST SOLO FLIGHT. UPON LANDING AND ROLLOUT THE PILOT WAS CLOSE TO THE LEFT EDGE OF RUNWAY R30. ANTICIPATING THE TAXIWAY EXIT A3, THE PILOT DECIDED TO EXIT THE RUNWAY EARLY AND CAUGHT THE LEFT WING TIP ON THE TAXIWAY EXIT SIGN A3 DAMAGING THE LEFT WING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR14CA063](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR14CA063), Dec 8, 2013: Burkhart Grob G 103 Twin II (N3981C), Bryon, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate wing clearance from a runway sign while taxiing.

## Other reports on N3981C (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19870308017969I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19870308017969I), Mar 8, 1987: Grob G103TWNASTIR (N3981C), Llano, CA, Minor damage. Landed short of runway aftermisjudging the approach.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
