## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT HAD JUST COME OUT OF AN ANUUAL INSPECTION. THE PIC/MECHANIC AND THE OWNER OF THE AIRCRAFT TOOK THE AIRCRAFT ON A TEST FLIGHT. THE ENGINE QUIT WHILE ABOUT TEN MINUTES INTO THE TEST FLIGHT AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS SIGNIFICANTLY DAMAGED DUE TO THE HARD LANDING ON THE SURFACE OF THE ICE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC14CA014](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC14CA014), Jan 4, 2014: Cessna 170 - B (N8177A), Nome, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to adequately remove water-contaminated fuel during the preflight inspection, which resulted in a total loss of engine power.

## Other reports on N8177A (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19820302001989A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19820302001989A), Mar 2, 1982: Cessna 170B (N8177A), Poorman, AK, Substantial damage. Landed on snow plowed runway with ice and bare spots. Ski equipped aircraft hit bare spot, slid into snowberm.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
