(ORD), THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO DTW DUE TO ?CREW REPORTS ON CLIMB AT APPROX. 18K' THERE WAS A VIBRATION, LOUD BANG, SIGNIFICANT CLIMB IN ITT AND AN E1 FAIL. A FLASH WAS SEEN FROM THE EXHAUST OF E1 BY THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT AND PASSENGERS. THERE WAS NO FIRE INDICATED AND THE BOTTLES WERE NOT BLOWN, THE T HANDLE WAS NOT PULLED, THE ENGINE AUTO SHUTDOWN.? THE AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
