## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT REPORTED THAT FOLLOWING AN UNEVENTFUL DOWNWIND, BASE AND FINAL APPROACH, HE LANDED THE AIRCRAFT RUNWAY 14. BOTH MAIN LANDING GEAR WHEELS WERE IN CONTACT WITH THE RUNWAY; HOWEVER, THE TAIL WHEEL HAD NOT YET MADE CONTACT. THREE DEER ENTERED THE RUNWAY FROM THE LEFT AND STOPPED IN HIS PATH. THE PILOT APPLIED RIGHT RUDDER TO AVOID THE ANIMALS, TAKING THE AIRCRAFT OFF THE RUNWAY, STRIKING A RUNWAY LIGHT AND SIGN, THEN INTO THE FIELD WHERE IT CAME TO REST.

UPON EXITING THE RUNWAY, THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED DUE TO STRUCTURAL FAILURE AND WAS TORN FROM THE AIRCRAFT. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO SHEET METAL AROUND THE LANDING GEAR AREA. THE PROPELLER HAD SCORING ON THE LEADING EDGE AND THE SPINNER WAS DENTED. ENGINE EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPONENTS WERE DAMAGED UPON CONTACT WITH THE GROUND. THE LEFT WING WAS DAMAGED AND WAS RESTING ON THE GROUND SUPPORTING THE AIRCRAFT. IT WAS BENT AT AN APPROXIMATE 30 DEGREE ANGLE BEGINNING ABOUT 6? FROM WING TIP.

NO EVIDENCE OF ANIMAL REMAINS FOUND ON AIRCRAFT OR IN VICINITY OF ACCIDENT ON THE AIRFIELD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14CA097](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14CA097), Jan 19, 2014: Cessna 195B (N1960C), Winchester, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's attempt to avoid a deer on the runway, which resulted in loss of aircraft control, a runway excursion, and collision with a runway sign.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
