## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT REPORTED TAKING OFF IN THIS AMPHIBIOUS FLOAT PLANE FROM PEARSON FIELD, WA FOR HILLSBORO, OR, WITH NO PASSENGERS. HE SAID HE MOVED THE AIRPLANE OUT OF THE HANGAR USING THE LARGE STC PROVIDED FLOAT TOW BAR, WHICH IS ABOUT 8 FEET LONG EACH LEG WITH A TRAILER HITCH TYPE FITTING AT THE CENTER. PILOT REPORTED HE DID NOT NOTICE THE TOW BAR WAS STILL ATTACHED DURING PREFLIGHT, AND DEPARTED PEARSON FIELD WITH TOW BAR PUSHING IN FRONT OF AIRPLANE. HE FLEW TO HIO WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT, AND HILLSBORO TOWER NOTIFIED PILOT THAT IT APPEARED A TOW BAR WAS HANGING FROM HIS FLOATS WHEN HE ENTERED PATTERN. PILOT WAS NOT AWARE THAT THE TOW BAR WAS ATTACHED AT THAT TIME. EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT WAS DISPATCHED BUT AIRPLANE LANDED WITH OUT DAMAGE OR INJURY TO PILOT. TOW BAR SEPARATED FROM FLOATS ON RUNWAY 2 AT HIO, AND WAS FOUND ON THE RUNWAY BY EMERGENCY RESPONSE PERSONNEL. DAMAGE TO FLOAT LANDING GEAR ATTACH POINTS FOUND, AND DEBRIS CONTACTED PROPELLER WHILE RUNNING ON RUNWAY, LEAVING LARGE DIVOT IN LEADING EDGE OF ONE BLADE. ENGINE TEAR DOWN REQUIRED BY AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE IN FOLLOW UP DUE TO PROPELLER STRIKE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
