## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THIS ACCIDENT WAS ORIGINALLY LABELED AN INCIDENT. POST-MAINTENANCE INSPECTION REVEALED FIREWALL DAMAGE THAT HAD PREVIOUSLY NOT BEEN KNOWN.

ON FEBRUARY 3, 2014, AT 0953 EST, STUDENT PILOT (SP) ON INITIAL SOLO FLIGHT EXPERIENCED HARD LANDING ON KFPR RUNWAY 10R AFTER PRACTICING SEVERAL FULL-STOP LANDINGS ON RUNWAY 10L. STUDENT MIS-APPLIED CROSSWIND CONTROLS, STRUCK THE TAIL ON THE RUNWAY, AND PORPOISED TO A HARD LANDING. SOLO STUDENT DID NOT REPORT STATUS TO KFPR TOWER; ACCORDINGLY, ATC DID NOT HAVE CAUSE TO INITIATE INCIDENT NOTIFICATION PROTOCOLS. NO INJURIES. FIREWALL DAMAGE NOT DISCOVERED UNTIL FEBRUARY 17, 2014.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14CA121](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14CA121), Feb 3, 2014: Cessna 172R (N828BM), Fort Pierce, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper landing flare, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
