## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON FEBRUARY 25, 2014, AT APPROXIMATELY 1000 MST, N9741E, A 1977 BELLANCA SUPER VIKING (MODEL 17-31A), REGISTERED TO MICHAEL FISHBURN, WAS CRUISING ON A CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT FROM 1N1 (SANDIA EAST AIRPARK, NM) TO PVW (PLAINVIEW, TX) UNDER VISUAL FLIGHT RULES. APPROXIMATELY 16 MILES EAST OF SXU (SANTA ROSA ROUTE 66 AIRPORT) THE PILOT INTENTIONALLY RAN THE AUXILIARY (FUSELAGE) FUEL TANK EMPTY. HE SELECTED THE LEFT WING TANK AND TURNED THE FUEL BOOST PUMP ON. THE ENGINE-OUT GLIDE TIME TO DESCEND 3,600 FEET FROM CRUISE ALTITUDE TO THE SURFACE WAS NOT SUFFICIENT TO AFFECT AN ENGINE RESTART. THE PILOT MADE AN OFF-AIRPORT LANDING ON A DIRT ROAD. ON ROLLOUT, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A TELEPHONE JUNCTION BOX ON THE ROAD?S SHOULDER. THE IMPACT VEERED THE AIRCRAFT SHARPLY LEFT COLLAPSING THE NOSE AND LEFT MAIN GEAR LEGS, AND DRIVING THE JUNCTION BOX FROM THE LEADING EDGE BACK THROUGH THE MAIN SPAR OF THE LEFT WING. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
