## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DEPARTED SNOW COVERED FROZEN LAKE AND ENCOUNTERED SNOW DRIFTS DURING TAKE-OFF PROCEDURE AND LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO STRIKE THE SNOW ON THE AFT OUTBOARD END OF THE WING CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE RUDDER CONTROLS WERE INADVERTENTLY BLOCKED BY BACKSEAT PASSENGER DUE TO FORCES ENCOUNTERED WHILE MANEUVERING OVER SNOWDRIFTS NEAR LIFT-OFF AIRSPEED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC14CA018](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC14CA018), Mar 8, 2014: Piper PA 18 (N8281C), Tanana, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The passenger inadvertently interfered with the rudder control pedal, which resulted in a loss of directional control during takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
