## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MARCH 20, AT ABOUT 1700 PDT, A LIGHT SPORT AIRCRAFT WITH A STUDENT PILOT AT THE CONTROLS WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED DURING TAKEOFF. THE PILOT STATED THAT WHEN POWER WAS APPLIED TO THE AIRCRAFT, SOMETHING DID NOT FEEL RIGHT. APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO PULL TO THE LEFT. THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, CLIPPED A RUNWAY LIGHT, BROKE THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR OFF, AND DAMAGED THE RIGHT WING.

A POST ACCIDENT EXAMINATION REVEALED THAT THE AIRPLANE CAME TO REST OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, APPROXIMATELY

750 FEET FROM THE TAKE OFF END, POINTING APPROXIMATELY SOUTH-EAST. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED.

NO MECHANICAL REASON FOR THE LEFT PULL WAS FOUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR14LA141](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR14LA141), Mar 20, 2014: Evektor-Aerotechnik Sportstar (N817EV), Porterville, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
