## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

1. AIRCRAFT WAS IN RADIO CONTACT WITH ATC ABOUT 12 MILES FROM THE UNI AIRPORT WHEN CHANGED OVER TO UNICOM.

2. RADAR CONTACT WAS LOST AS AIRCRAFT ENTERED WHAT APPEARS TO BE LEFT TRAFFIC FOR RUNWAY 7.

3. THE PILOT EXTENDED GEAR, SET THE PROP TO LOW PITCH AND FLAPS FOR LANDING. IT APPEARS HE STARTED A LEFT TURN TO BASE FOR LANDING.

4. AIRCRAFT WAS IN A LEFT WING LOW ( LEFT TURN) WHEN THE LEFT WING TIP STRUCK A TREE 75 TO 100 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. THE IMPACT CUT THE LEFT WING TIP OFF WHICH CAME TO REST ABOUT 30 TO 50 FEET FROM THE IMPACT POINT. (SEE DRAWING IN FILE)

5. AIRCRAFT LEFT WING IMPACTED THE GROUND ABOUT 250 FEET FROM THE TREE, AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO CART-WHEEL UNTIL THE NOSE IMPACT WITH THE GROUND AND A TREE. PROP SHAFT FAILED ON IMPACT AND AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER AND CAME TO REST UPSIDE-DOWN WITH THE NOSE POINTING BACK TOWARD THE FIRST IMPACT TREE.

ENGINE AND PROPELLER APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN OPERATING NORMAL UNTIL IMPACT.

FLIGHT CONTROL CHECK SHOWED THE CONTROLS WERE CONNECTED AND OPERATION APPEARED TO BE NORMAL WITH THE FLAPS IN THE FULL DOWN POSITION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN14FA185](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN14FA185), Apr 5, 2014: Bellanca 17-30A (N8259R), Albany, OH, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s loss of airplane control during the approach to landing.

## Other reports on N8259R (1)

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
