## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF FROM A LOCAL FLY-IN BREAKFAST THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER, MANEUVERED ABNORMALLY AND IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A SEMI WOODED PASTURE.

THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST UPRIGHT ON ITS BELLY AGAINST A SMALL GROVE OF TREES AND WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED, NO POST IMPACT FIRE ENSUED. BOTH OCCUPANTS SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES. SEVERAL WITNESSES AND PILOT AND PASSENGER STATED THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND ATTEMPT AT A DEPARTURE FROM THE GRASS STRIP. THE FIRST ATTEMPT RESULTED IN A PARTIAL LOSS OF POWER OR (LOADING UP) JUST AFTER ROTATION, ABORTED AND MADE A LANDING ON THE REMAINING RUNWAY, TAXIED BACK TO DEPARTURE END DID ANOTHER RUN UP, MAG CHECK AND DEPARTED AGAIN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN14LA199](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN14LA199), Apr 12, 2014: Ercoupe 415 C (N2788H), Cookson, OK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to properly secure the primer, which resulted in the loss of engine power during takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
