## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AN ENGINE FIRE OCCURRED DURING THE ENGINE START FOR A TRAINING FLIGHT. THE CFI STATED HE USED THE CHECK LIST FOR A NORMAL START, THEN USED THE CHECK LIST FOR A FLOODED START. A BACK FIRE WAS HEARD FOLLOWED BY SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COWLING. THE CFI AND THE STUDENT EVACUATED THE AIRCRAFT AND EMERGENCY CREWS WERE CALLED. THE FIRE CREW EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE THAT WAS LIMITED TO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
