## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WAS TAKING OFF FROM A BEACH AT FOSSIL POINT IN LAKE CLARK NATIONAL PARK. AIRMAN SAYS HE HIT A BUMP AND LOST CONTROL DURING TAKEOFF ROLL, AND SUBSEQUENTLY HIT THE ONLY ALDER TREE IN THE AREA WITH THE LEFT WING. THIS CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE WING, FUSELAGE, AND LANDING GEAR. AIRMAN TRIED TO USE HIS DELORME SATELLITE DEVICE TO REACH HIS SPOUSE TO COORDINATE RESCUE, BUT THE DEVICE DID NOT WORK. AIRMAN SAID HE THEN HAD TO USE THE "SOS" FUNCTION ON THE DEVICE AS A LAST RESORT. THIS ALERTED THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT (ALASKA STATE TROOPERS) WHO INITIATED A RESCUE EFFORT SUCCESSFULLY. THE AIRCRAFT WAS RELEASED BY NTSB TO BE HELICOPTERED TO BIRCHWOOD AIRPORT FOR REPAIR.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
