## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT HEARD A LOUD POP UPON SELECTING GEAR DOWN. HE WAS UNABLE TO OBTAIN A GREEN GEAR DOWN INDICATION FOLLOWING SEVERAL ATTEMPTS INCLUDING EMERGENCY EXTENSION. UPON LANDING, RIGHT GEAR COLLAPSED CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO AIRCRAFT. THERE WAS NO POST CRASH FIRE OR INJURY TO PILOT OR PROPERTY. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED LANDING GEAR TRANSMISSION GEAR BOX (ACTUATOR) FAILED INTERNALLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN14LA256](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN14LA256), Apr 22, 2014: Cessna 421 (N866BS), Horseshoe Bay, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the drive mechanism for the gearbox motor, which resulted in the gear not extending for the landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
