## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON FINAL APPROACH, AIRMAN NOTICED ANOTHER GLIDER ON RUNWAY. AIRMAN RAISED NOSE TO CLEAR AIRCRAFT BUT FAILED TO LOWER AIR BRAKES. AIRSPEED DECAYED AND GLIDER LANDED HARD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA14CA215](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA14CA215), Apr 27, 2014: Schleicher Alexander K 7 (N1002Z), Benton, TN, minor damage. Probable cause: The pilot's distraction with traffic on the runway, and his subsequent failure to retract the air brakes prior to touchdown, which resulted in a hard landing.

## Other reports on N1002Z (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19800924044509A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19800924044509A), Sep 24, 1980: Schler K7 (N1002Z), Montpelier, OH, Substantial damage. Glider student struck obstruction with wing causing crash short of runway. Spoilers may have stuck on.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
