## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT WERE PRACTICING SHORT FIELD LANDINGS AT DELAND AIRPORT. WHILE ON SHORT FINAL, THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO SINK AND THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR ADVISED THE STUDENT TO APPLY "FULL POWER." THE STUDENT THOUGHT THE INSTRUCTOR SAID "PULL POWER" AND REDUCED POWER TO IDLE CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO IMPACT THE RUNWAY AND BOUNCE BACK INTO THE AIR. THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR TOOK THE CONTROLS, ABORTED THE LANDING, RETURNED TO DAYTONA AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.

A SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT BY MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL REVEALED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE NOSE GEAR ASSEMBLY AND FIREWALL.
