## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS PRACTICING LANDINGS ON RUNWAY 14 BUT WAS ON FINAL FOR RUNWAY 9. HE WAS QUESTIONED BY THE TOWER ABOUT HIS INTENTIONS AND THEN TURNED TO BASE LEG FOR RUNWAY 14 AT APPROXIMATELY 500 ABOVE THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT THEN LOST ALTITUDE AND IMPACTED A SMALL OPEN AREA NEAR A BALL FIELD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN14LA234](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN14LA234), May 10, 2014: Mooney M20TN (N563JK), San Antonio, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because postaccident examination and testing of the engine revealed no anomalies.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
