## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE CLIMBING THROUGH 4500 FEET, THE PILOT ENCOUNTERED A BURNING ODOR IN THE COCKPIT.

SOON AFTER HE OBSERVED MIST COMING FROM THE FORWARD RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO RETURN TO THE FIELD, THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO SHAKE DUE TO EXCESSIVE ENGINE VIBRATION.

AFTER EXPERIENCING EXCESSIVE VIBRATION THE PILOT SHUTOFF THE ENGINE.

PILOT WAS UNABLE TO RETURN TO THE AIRFIELD RESULTING IN AN ENGINE-OUT LANDING IN A LOCAL FARMERS FIELD.

PILOT ELECTED TO LAND GEAR UP TO MINIMIZE AIRCRAFT DAMAGE.

THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE AND THE PILOT RECEIVED NO INJURIES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
