## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MAY 21, 2014, AT ABOUT 19:30 PACIFIC DAYLIGHT TIME (PDT), N345CB, A BEECHCRAFT N35 AIRPLANE, DEPARTED THE LINCOLN REGIONAL AIRPORT (KLHM) LINCOLN, CA, ON A VISUAL FLIGHT RULES (VFR) TRAINING FLIGHT.

THE PURPOSE OF THE FLIGHT WAS TO CONDUCT A FLIGHT REVIEW FOR THE PRIVATE PILOT, WHO WAS OCCUPYING THE LEFT SEAT AS THE PILOT FLYING AND WHO WAS NOT CURRENT. THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND (PIC), A CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (CFI), WAS OCCUPYING THE RIGHT SEAT AS THE PILOT NOT FLYING.

FOLLOWING SEVERAL FLIGHT MANEUVERS IN THE VICINITY OF KLHM, THE PILOT STATED THAT THE CFI INITIATED A SIMULATED ENGINE FAILURE AT APPROXIMATELY 3,500 FEET MSL.

THE PILOT PERFORMED THE ENGINE OUT PROCEDURES AND HEADED BACK TO KLHM FOR LANDING. BOTH PILOT AND CFI CONFIRMED SEVERAL TIMES THAT THE GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED. HOWEVER, THEY LANDED THE AIRCRAFT ON RUNWAY 15 AT KLHM WITH THE GEAR UP AT APPROXIMATELY 20:08 PDT.

THE MECHANIC, WHO PROVIDED AN ASSESSMENT OF THE DAMAGE TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY, STATED THAT THE LANDING GEAR HAD TO BE IN TRANSIT ON TOUCHDOWN TO INCUR SUCH DAMAGE TO THE INBOARD MAIN GEAR DOORS AND TO SPARE THE CENTER SECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT BELLY FROM CONTACTING THE GROUND. HE FOUND THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE UP POSITION AFTER THE ACCIDENT.

NO PRE-EXISTING DEFECTS WERE IDENTIFIED IN THE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE RECORDS.

IT COULD NOT BE CONCLUSIVELY DETERMINED WHO SELECTED OR WHAT CAUSED THE GEAR HANDLE TO MOVE TO THE UP POSITION PRIOR TO OR DURING TOUCH DOWN. BOTH AIRMEN DENIED RESPONSIBILITY FOR CAUSING THE ACCIDENT. THEY RECEIVED INFORMAL COUNSELING AND PROVIDED COMPREHENSIVE SUGGESTIONS TO PREVENT REOCCURRENCE.

THIS REPORT MAY BE REVISED WITH ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
